Off Grid systems utilize photovoltaic panels to generate electricity. Groups of panels or “arrays”, convert sunlight into direct current(dc) electricity. In this case, low voltage DC current is first used to charge a battery bank. A majority of the energy that an Off Grid system produces is stored in the battery bank for later use. When electricity is needed in the home, the inverter draws from the batteries or panels and turns the DC into AC electricity.
Off Grid systems are for people that live or are building beyond the reach of the utility grid. In Vermont, most Off Grid systems have a generator to supply energy when there is not enough sunlight. whether for a weekend camp or a retirement dream home, each off grid system is custom designed to meet the needs of the client.
